Spring has sprung

After a sunny Overbury Lambing Live day, hosted from the Village Hall in Overbury we wanted to thank the visitors and community for their ongoing support.  Money from the trailer rides to go towards community educational resources and projects and the money raised from the Village Hall refreshments goes to the continual upgrade and improvements to facilities in the Hall for the community.

The event is always a lovely way to engage with both residents and visitors alike and we are so lucky to have so many helpers who give their time and good humour to help, from car parking and ticket sales through to making teas and help clearing up.

Our Children's quiz winners were the sisters pictures below and shared an Allison's Book Voucher.  A lucky photo competition winner will be awarded with a farm experience that money can't buy.

Our next Community Event will be the COCO (Community Orchard) member's picnic on Saturday 6th May (weather permitting).  See the calendar for more information and if you have not joined yet do contact COCO for membership information here.

Conderton & Overbury Community Orchard

Conderton & Overbury Community Orchard

And let's not forget the Annual Street Market on Saturday 8th July 2017 from 10am-12 noon.

If you have any community events you would like added to the calendar or have a topic you think the community would like to hear about please do email us to share it on this site.

Autumn arrives

With the turning of the leaves and the cooling weather we welcome the beautiful colours and change to scenery that autumn brings.  On our Friends of St Faith page you will find information about how to join the friends and support the maintenance of the church.  The date and time for the Bonfire and fireworks are found in our Calendar.  There is an updated Village Hall Page dedicated to the development work and news from the Hall.

Following the wonderfully fun Roving Crows event at the end of September which raised over £1000 for the Village Hall development, we are still very keen to hear ideas back from the community about how to use the hall and what community functions they think could work well there.  And if you would like to volunteer to host and organise something even better.  Contact the Estate Office Reception on 01386 725111.

Finally thanks to all who turned out for the COCO juicing day.  It was wonderful fun, lots of fruit picking and juice produced courtesy of Kemerton Press.  Even the weather was kind, with blue skies for the most part.

Roving Crows coming to Overbury on Friday 30th September 2016

We are delighted to welcome the Roving Crows to Overbury Village Hall in September 2016.  If you have not received an email about how to buy tickets contact the office on 01386 725111.

The fantastic Roving Crows (www.rovingcrows.com) will be playing at Overbury Village Hall on Friday 30th September 2016 from 7.45pm to raise funds for its improvements and upgrades. It is also a wonderful opportunity to showcase our unique hall and generate ideas on how best it can be used going forward for the maximum value to villagers.  The Roving Crows are an award winning must-see act, with roots in Folk and Celtic music. Renowned for their high-energy live performance, their shows pull together funked up traditional tunes and catchy original song.

Countryside awareness week

National Countryside Week 2016

National Countryside Week is The Prince’s Countryside Fund’s annual awareness week and takes place from Monday 18th to Sunday 24th July. This year it aims to:

  • Raise awareness and celebrate the value of the British countryside
  • Highlight a number of issues including food security, sustainable farming, support for family farms and the local producer, seasonal food and British produce.
  • Encourage people to come together and celebrate by having a picnic to appreciate everything that is special about the countryside and the important role it plays in all our lives.

http://www.princescountrysidefund.org.uk/events/national-countryside-week

Here at Overbury we enjoy being part of a working farm and harvesting has started in earnest with the Overbury Enterprises farming team working hard to get crops cut during this wonderful sunshine.  So please don't forget to keep an eye out for large machinery and please be considerate with your parking to allow the combines and tractor access.

Overbury 38th Street Market report

Street Market Report 2016

Despite early morning showers a large crowd of our regulars and new visitors arrived for the Street Market, chasing away the last remnants of rain.  Opening at 10am, announced by five strikes on the ‘five minute’ church bell, tolled by young Alex Randles.

A huge thanks to all the stall holders, including:

·         Bacon & Veggy Butties

·         Katie Hough Art

·         Raffle

·         Overbury Lamb

·         Anne’s Pantry

·         Going for a Song

·         Corn Dollies

·         The Book Stall

·         Toys

·         Bottle Stall

·         Plant stand

Refreshments were on offer in Berkeley House garden, and this year visitors were serenaded by Mike Weaver with his guitar and melodic songs. Across the road, in Whitcombe Garden, the Overbury School and Grasshoppers Nursery entertained the youngsters.

At noon the tidy up began, ensuring that by 1.30pm the street was cleared, banners packed away for another year and all furniture returned to the Village Hall.  Another magnificent effort, on the part of so many, has raised in excess of £3500 towards the village charities.  Thank you to everyone.

Community events - call for volunteers and support

We are excited to share some key dates for events in Overbury and see who might be able to offer some occasional help in support of them.  One of the most special things which makes Overbury/Conderton such a fantastic area to live in is the community involvement.   There are all sorts of ways you can help from cake baking to jobs such as car parking or covering breaks in the village hall on the refreshment counter or even selling raffle tickets or helping on one of the many stalls during the street market.

The next annual event will be Overbury Farms Lambing Day, which will take place this year on Sunday 3rd April.  The Overbury Pantry are a community group who run the refreshment stand at the village hall during the lambing day to raise funds for improvements and essential works to the Village hall.  Terry and Angelina coordinate this effort in selling cakes, flapjacks, jars of chutneys and any other goodies you kindly bake for sale.  If you are able to contribute something please email Terry on: terrydennison033@gmail.com or you can email pa@overburyestate.co.uk and Becky will pass your details on to her to contact.

If you would like to volunteer to help on the actual day (Sunday 3rd April) with any of the other jobs or covering breaks for short periods please do contact Becky by email (pa@overburyestate.co.uk) or call to chat on 01386 725119.  We will create a list and then divide up jobs in the coming period to create a schedule.  There is no obligation to be available for future events, we appreciate your time in whatever way you can give it.  Below are the provisional dates for 2 other events that you might like to get involved with so please do contact Becky or the Estate office if you would:

Following events:

Confirmed date for Overbury Street Market: Saturday 9th July 2016 from 10am – 12 noon  - help always appreciated on the various stands, raffle, set up and clear up.

There will be more information on the Lambing Day activities on our farms website, facebook and overbury.org as we draw nearer so if you are planning to come along and visit and bring others do keep an eye on social media and the websites.

We hope to see you there, whether as visitors or helpers.

In the last month Jude has run a total of 134 miles, combining road and hill training around Bredon Hill.  The longest runs have been between 16-20 miles, Jude is getting used to how much food and fluids she needs consume on each run.   She is also trialling which trainers she will use needing to ensure that the shoes give her plenty of support but also allow her feet to move with the terrain.

Over the next few weeks Jude will be increasing her intake of carbohydrates building the energy reserves and taking longer slow runs over the different terrains. Jude has been spotted in the Bredon Hill area wearing her Maggies vest so when you see Jude, please give her a wave.
